              Florida Disability Employer Awareness Month
Blind and Visually Impaired Employer Spotlight

              Check Out These Outstanding Employers:

The Florida Division of Blind Services (DBS) is pleased to recognize National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), an opportunity to highlight employment issues and celebrate the many contributions to the workforce by those who are disabled.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s National Disability Employment Awareness Month theme for 2020 is “Increasing Access and Opportunity.” This theme is a daily reality for DBS as we strive to ensure clients have the needed access and opportunities to thrive in the workforce.

Through our various training programs, learning opportunities, and the provision of accessible technology and equipment, DBS continues to open doors to employment for those who are blind and visually impaired. Realizing that persons with disabilities make up 28.1 percent of Florida’s population and 19.3 percent of Florida’s workforce, we’re highly motivated in our strategies and initiatives to be a valuable resource for these citizens and those who wish to hire them.

In celebration of NDEAM, DBS along with the Agency for Persons with Disabilities, Vocational Rehabilitation, and other disability organizations will recognize outstanding Florida employers that have a history of hiring and supporting individuals with disabilities with a virtual ceremony this month.

Additionally, during the month of October we are spotlighting employers who hire blind and visually impaired employees. These employers deserve recognition for their role in supporting and encouraging the independence of blind and visually impaired people in their communities. Their affirmation that blind and visually impaired people make good employees deserves many thanks.

The Division of Blind Services is proud to do our part to make Florida a great place to work for persons who are disabled and provide the needed supports to make employment goals a reality.
